Step 1: Be eligible & register your business

Learn what eligibility standards your startup should comply with:

  • The company must not be more than ten years old from the date of its incorporation. 
  • The annual turnover should not exceed ₹100 crore in any financial year.
  • It must be of one of these legal forms: Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or Registered Partnership Firm. 
  • It must be an original entity (not created by splitting, reconstructing, or merging an existing business) and is working on innovation, improvement, or scalable model. 

In this step, the incorporation of your business is carried out (via MCA for companies & LLPs, or Registrar for partnership).

Present Usual Documents:

  • Identity and address proofs of promoters/directors
  • Digital signatures (DSC)
  • DIN (Director Identification Number) for directors

Some time later, the official Startup India/DPIIT Recognition Certificate will be provided; usually, it can be downloaded from your Dashboard or through DigiLocker. 
  • The Certificate is a digital certificate and will never expire as long as you comply with the terms and conditions for an extension.

  • Post-recognition, one may claim Income Tax exemption under Section 80-IAC (for 3 years) for the eligible start-up.
